Limeonade

Hello hello everyone! So, its been about a month since I've seen my family and I'm pretty homesick. In order to feel a little closer to home, I decided to make my moms famous limeonade and wanted to share it with you guys! Its more of an herbal healthy lemonade that tastes absolutely incredible. Below is how to make it...hope you guys love it as much as I do. Miss you mami!
{this is what you'll need: rosemary, about 10 limes, water, and agave}

{first, boil six cups of water}

{while the water is boiling, squeeze all 10 limes which will give you about one cup of lime juice}

{once the water is boiled, take it off the stove and place the rosemary in the pot. Let it fester for about 30 minutes to get a rich herbal taste}

{after the 30 minutes are up, take the rosemary out of the pot and put the water in a jar. Add the cup of lime juice into the jar. In addition to this pour about a half a cup of agave into the mix}

Forever Twenty One

This weekend was my roommate, Britts, twenty first birthday! I'm currently sick with a cold because of how much we pushed our bodies; probably meaning she had a great time. Before we went out to celebrate her 'legalness', we had friends over to sing happy birthday and cut the cake. We had an awesome time and I'm sure she did too (at least from what she remembers). Now that its Sunday, I'm being lazier than ever, which is probably the reason this post isn't one of my best. Even though I am sulking on the couch, I made time for my nails (duh) and will of course share the color of the week. I hope you all had an amazing weekend and a more eventful Sunday than mine considering the only thing I saw all day was a Pan con Bistec and the inside of my eye lids. Until next time! :)

Buen Provecho.

Hello everyone! Today I have decided to make my favorite "college meal" for dinner and wanted to share it with you guys. It is actually really affordable and super easy to make (I'm all about affordable these days)! It is sort of a healthy (its Tuesday...trying to stick to the diet) type of steak fried rice if that even makes sense. Above is a picture of how it came out and below is how its made. Enjoy!

{estimated time: 8min}
{approximately 7pts in Weight Watchers....yea guys, Halloweens just around the corner}

{this is what you'll need: Veggies, steak, rice, pam, olive oil, salt and pepper}

{first you'll put the vegetables on the stove with a hint of olive oil, salt, and pepper.}

{while the veggies are cooking, have a steak grilling on the stove at the same time. Season it with a little salt and pepper or any light seasoning. Add it to the veggies.}

{I use Uncle Ben's Long and Wild microwavable rice. While the other stuff is on the stove just pop this in the microwave for 90 seconds. Use about 1/2 cup of rice and add it to the bowl}

ALSO,  I forgot to post the color of the week on Sunday (wasn't really feeling my best after having used the kegstand shirt Saturday...see previous post) so here it is. I actually used two different colors to make a more white-ish color.

This Is My Kegstand Shirt

Hey guys! I hope you all had a great weekend. Yesterday was the FSU vs OU game! Fifth in the nation vs. first in the nation! HUGE game. Everyone knows that where there's a big game, there's an even bigger tailgate. Because of this, I made a shirt in honor of the event. Above is a pic of how it came out and below is how I made it. Hope you guys like! And FSU, we'll get them next time!

Warning: This shirt will get the best of you...trust me.

{you will need a shirt, iron on letters, scissors, and an iron}

{Place the letters on the shirt}

{place a cloth over the letters and iron}

Chalk Wall

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I havn't been posting lately. I've decided  I'm going to be blogging two to four times a week because I'm swamped with school and work...plus, I want to put in the time for my blogs for you guys! Anyway, I got such great feedback from Room Feng Shui that I decided I'm going to share my favorite part of my living room: the chalk wall. A chalk wall is a great/affordable way to add on to your apartment! We got the chalk paint from home depot for a shy 10 bucks and of course the chalk was from the dollar store (yes, I go to the dollar store on the reg). Above is a pic of how it came out..all of our friends signed it with their names and inspiring quotes! Hope you guys like!

Attention: Friends in tally that have yet to sign the wall, get your butts over here!

Room Feng Shui

{before}

{after}

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to do this post because for the past three weeks I have been working really hard on re-doing my room. I have put so much time and energy into this because last year I didn't feel at home whenever I was in my room/apartment and could not take another year feeling the same way. My room last year was still really cute but I just felt like changing it up. Anyway, I took pics of my entire room to show you guys how it finally came out. I also want to add that most of the things in my room are either things I made myself, stuff I bought from the dollar store or Goodwill (this is my college apartment and I wasn't about to spend a fortune at West Elm so spending the least amount as possible seemed like a great option...don't worry my comforter is DEF not from Goodwill lol) but I will point out in each picture how I made everything! I really hope you guys like it and are inspired to make your room as homey as possible!

1. {desk} My desk is pretty much the same as last year except I did buy a chalk board from Crate&Barrel for $16.99 and painted it guacamole green!

2. {chair} I bought that chair at Goodwill for FOUR bucks (it was horrendous when I bought it...it was yellow and had the ugliest print ever + cat hair...but honestly, what was I expecting? lol). I painted the whole chair white and re-upholstered it with fabric I chose from Jo-Ann Fabric for $9.99 ALSO, below is a picture of the best dad in the WORLD being extremely cute and re-touching the chair because he's so freaking cute! I love you daddy!

3. {bed bench} This bench is actually really special to me because it was my grandmothers before she past away. It was in my parents room and I begged my mom to let me take it and she said yes! (she's the best/cutest mom in the world by the way). Anyway, we did the same thing..painted it white and re-upholstered it with the same fabric and made it so cute! THANK YOU MAMI! she really did help me so much with that bench!

4. {night stand} I bought that lamp at Goodwill for $10 and the container for my nail polishes for $3 (putting nail polishes in a cute glass container like that is a great way to decorate your room while also having a place to store them....got this idea from my friend, Steph!) Also, my friend Zoe gave me that mannequin for FREE! I have been dying for a cute mannequin like that but they're so god damn expensive so thank God for Zoe lol! P.S. the mannequin goes by Joline!

5. {frame wall} I actually bought all those frames at the dollar store. I printed a bunch of pictures of my friends and family (in black and white) to make me a little less homesick! This is actually my favorite part of my room!

6. {floating vase} I actually copied this idea from my girl, Emily (if only she knew who I was lol)! check out how I did it at http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/floating-vase/

7. {closet} I didn't really add anything new to my closet except for the jewelry organizer (you can barely see it, its next to the shoe  organizer on the right). I just put the pic up because I organized it and thought I should document it before it becomes a disaster again lol.

8. {bathroom} I got that white stand at Goodwill for $2. I put all my perfumes on there and my face towels!

Well thats it everyone! I hope you guys love it as much as I do!

Sundays.

Sundays are actually my favorite day of the week. I get to just sleep in, watch movies, and eat whatever I want because of course, diets always start on Monday. Today, my friends and I curled up and watched One Fine Day with Michelle Fifer and George Clooney where they play single parents in New York and of course they fall in love. Great movie.... and let me tell you, George Clooney makes, One Fine Dad. Anywho, I hope you guys had a great weekend and an even better Sunday!

GAME DAY!

Today was the FSU vs Charleston Southern game and of course I woke up with my game face on. My roomies and I went to buy FSU T-shirts and decided to cut them up and make them unique. We first cut the sleeves to the style of our choice (I chose the tank top cut). Then, we simply cut slits at the bottom of the shirts and added knots to the tips. Of course we started scribbling (see previous post) so they didn't come out as perfect as we wanted them to but hey, we had fun making them! Above is a picture of how they came out...Hope you guys like it!

PS: FSU won! GO NOLES!!!

Shopping Overload

Yesterday was the Henri Girl semi-annual liquidation sale where everything in the store was 50-70% off. I'm all about bargain hunting so a liquidation sale is like Christmas to me. Aside from applying to henri girl 3 times and getting rejected 3 times, I absolutely love that store. My roommate and I arrived at 12pm with the hopes and dreams of a new closet and left at 2:45pm with a few items each. It was a jungle in that store:  over 150 girls in a tiny boutique with ONE cash register does not sound like a good time. Regardless, it was an experience and we got some great deals!

PS: The lady in the right corner of the pic above with the three shoe boxes cut the ENTIRE line...risky move in a room full of estrogen

Also, check out these shoes I got...LOVE

Scribble Me That!

I just found out I don't have work tomorrow (WOOO) and decided I'll blog about my roomies and my new found fav drink in light of the weekend. This drink came about last weekend and was a hit with our friends. We used to just make strawberry daiquiris but we were out of ingredients so we decided to play around with what we had. First, you put the amount of liquor of your choice (we chose triple distilled vodka) in the blender (which we borrowed from our friends and are never giving it back....cleptos). Then, you add Hawaiian Punch and a hint of orange juice. Once thats in, add Scribbles (or any other popsicle) into the mix to add a different taste to it. Top it off with a lot of ice and blend away! Also, I'm a college student so I don't really have money to blow on things like cute cups but I actually found those at a dollar store. Enjoy!

Wait, idk how to use this...

Seriously, I really need help doing this because I'm the opposite of tech savvy but anyway, my name is Sophie and welcome to Polish&Pistachios. I decided to start a blog because I love www.cupcakesandcashmere.com and read it every morning. I actually wanted to name my blog "wannabecupcakes" but then I was like...that's really weird and stalkerish so I didn't lol. The name Polish&Pistachios came about because all my friends make fun of me for constantly changing my nail polish color and for eating pistachios 24/7 (my roommates want to kill me because the shells fall on the floor and make a mess blahblahblah..whatever I eat them anyway lol). I hope with time I can make my page cuter but until then, sorry for the blandness. I plan on blogging every day but only if I get better at it because this one is terrible. Until next time!
